World Record Attempt at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort

The team at LEGOLAND Windsor have been in touch to let us know that next week they are planning to smash a Guinness World record to pieces. Once again a Tower Building Event will be taking place, aiming to build the world’s tallest LEGO tower – and you can get involved for free.

The current record was set in Seoul, South Korea in May, and just two months later LEGOLAND Windsor want to improve on that. To beat the current record, “the challenge is on to create a structure more than 31.9m high”. The tower will need over 500,000 LEGO bricks as well as the support of LEGO fans who want to get involved with fellow LEGO enthusiasts to make this event happen.

It is completely free to come to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and get stuck in, but to enter the actual LEGOLAND Park and enjoy the attractions will still cost the standard entry rate. LEGOLAND Windsor have let us know, however, that there is a special group rate – groups of seven or more will pay children’s entry prices. There are also discounts for booking in advance. So if you have been itching to check out the new LEGO Star Wars Miniland Experience, it could be a great time to make that visit.

The actual building of the tower will begin on Tuesday 3rd July and continue until Friday 6th July, with the finished tower proudly on display for Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July. Budding builders who help the effort will be making 160 x 20cm sections of LEGO bricks, which will be gradually hoisted into place to form the tower.

LEGOLAND Windsor will be continuing a great tradition of LEGO tower building. The first LEGO tower was built in London in 1988, standing at just under 50 feet. Since then, the record has been toppled more than 30 times. Back in May 2008, LEGOLAND Windsor celebrated 50 years of the LEGO brick with a tower that was 29.26 metres high, nearly 3 metres smaller than the target height for next week. Chile and Brazil have also previously held the title of LEGO tower world record.

So if you have spare time on your hands next week or little ones to occupy, bring them along to LEGOLAND Windsor for a fun building experience, or make that trip to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort whilst there’s extra fun to be had. If you can’t make it, keep an eye on All About Bricks for an update when the build is complete!
